I have worked for myself in the wedding industry for 4 years now and have done countless amounts of wedding parties hair and makeup, Every group of people are different so I feel as though I can confidently pass on some helpful advice to all my lovely brides to be out there.
It is such an exciting time to be planning your special day marrying the one you love and the way we look on the day plays a massive part in the way we feel as I know from my own experience it can feel pretty daunting being the centre of attention for a whole day!
So I have come up with some advice to help you to achieve the absolute best with your artist, I hope you find it helpful!
Lots of love

What should a bride consider when choosing a makeup artist & Hair stylist?

Really do your research, I think the importance of how your hair and makeup looks is just as important as the dress, as its the main focal point of the day when all eyes are on you.
When you are looking on an artists portfolio/instagram, Ask yourself does her style really resonate with what you are wanting for your wedding day look.
What products does she use and are they of high quality?
If you know of a bride who you think looked amazing find out who she used and her thoughts – referrals are often the best way to go!
Find out his/her pricing and if that will work into your wedding budget, Most people will have pricing on their site or if they don't email for a quote

Working with a bride to create her perfect wedding day look
A trial is always the best way to go about it, It means peace of mind of mind for both you as the bride and me as the artist.
Again research is key if you are unsure of what you would like and remembering not everyones idea of "Natural" is the same so this is where a picture will help determine the level of makeup you are after.
During your trial we can chat in person and get to know one another talk about all of the details like dress, veil/no veil, accessories etc.
Its a great time to talk about any concerns or preferences so that I can ensure her look is 100% tailored to suit you .
Being Honest is absolute key! If you are not happy or have concerns you absolutely need to speak up, We won't take anything personally as it is our job to make sure you are 100% confident.
I personally think that lashes are an amazing addition to any wedding day look they enhance they eyes and really give your photos that extra little bit of glamour.
If you aren't sure whether or not they are for you the trial is the perfect time to discuss and try on a style to suit then you will know for sure if you would like them for the day.
I would say probably 90% of my brides opt for them so they are definitely a popular choice unless you plan on having the lashes done that last 4-5 weeks
Quite often my brides will add me to their Pinterest board so I can keep up to date with things they like and get a real feel for the look and style, so any photos you have saved are a great visual!
I always suggest doing a trial within three months of your wedding day as we all know sometimes we can change our minds on ideas, usually three months out you have finalized a lot more details and more likely to have your dress sorted.

What is your favourite look for the summer wedding season?
Loosely tousled waves with lots of volume and texture looks flattering and romantic on any woman.
Also the tucked behind the ear look - I think this is incredibly chic and classy looking yet still modern and will show off whatever stunning earrings you choose to wear!
As for the makeup – glowing skin, bronze eyes with wispy lashes is a look that look universally flattering on everyone and can do no wrong in my eyes!

What should I be doing with my skin before the big day?
Get to know your skin well and its needs – dry, oily, combination? Always stay hydrated cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise really well regardless of skin type. SPF is super important above all.
Use this time to pamper yourself pre-wedding and book in for a facial that way your beauty therapist can talk to you about what your skin needs and offer advice on what you should be doing at home.
Often when someone doesn't wear mach makeup day to day, They don't realise if their skin has texture issues until makeup is applied which can really emphasise any rough or dry surfaces so this is where micro dermabrasion might help or a peel, The skin is the canvas beneath makeup so its very important to get the skin looking smooth and at its best!

Will I need to touch up my makeup during the day evening?
I always suggest to my brides to buy a lipstick to have handy throughout the day as lip colour is generally the only thing that should need to be topped up with eating and drinking.
On my own wedding day I re-applied before and after dinner and that was all I really needed.
If you are someone of a really oily skin type and are worried about shine creeping through a compact blotting powder might be another great option just to powder your nose and t-zone if you feel the need.
Other than those two the rest of your makeup should hold up perfectly as all of the products I use are super long wearing and the skin has been prepped accordingly to withstand the time wearing makeup.

How do I decide on the perfect hairstyle?
How do you feel most comfortable? Are you someone who always wears your hair down or up? Theres quite a few questions you need to ask yourself!
The dress will really determine what style you should choose to compliment it best.
for example a lot of brides that have a backless dress like to go for an up do of some sort to really show this off.
Do you like texture and volume?
Sleek or Beachy?
Tight or loose?
Again with researching online by saving photos of brides that you really like what they have done so you can show your stylist and chat options
