Nursery tour

I can't believe as I'm writing this there is only 10 days till my due date which ironically is Labour Day!
This pregnancy has gone freakishly fast and most certainly has its highs and lows but I would have to say putting this nursery together has been one of the most exciting and fun parts of pregnancy for me!
From selecting the furniture to collecting artwork and figuring out the style I was wanting has had me in my absolute element.

I have been very lucky with working from home a lot, I have had plenty of time to put thought into what I have wanted in here so please enjoy a closer look, If there is anything I have missed feel free to message me and ask.

Big props to all the husbands who put together all the flat packed furniture too!
Josh would often come home after a long day on the tools to be greeted by me asking if he would put some drawers together...not exactly what he wants to be doing after working all day but he always did BLESS HIM

This room has been a real creative outlet for me and something I have thoroughly enjoyed working on for the past 7 months or so!
This morning my nursing chair arrived which has been the last thing I have waited for as there was a three month wait, safe to say it came just in time :)

I didn't set out with a particular theme in mind I just knew that I wanted it to be a true reflection of what I love and there fore would tie in nicely with the rest of our home....Fairly neutral with subtle hints of pastels.

I'm pretty content with what I have created as I can literally spend hours in here pottering around doing god knows what!
I just get so excited being in here knowing this is all for our first baby girl.
It is such a light and bright room that gets beautiful morning sunshine making it warm and dry

There have been lots of purchases where I feel I have really saved money and gone "cheaper" then picked out key things where I was happier to spend a little more on.

From Mocka.co.nz I chose the cot, book shelf and change table which also doubles as excellent storage with two large cubbys and drawers underneath.
These are all furniture items that you could spend a bomb on, I almost fell over when I started looking at nursery furniture you can spend around $1500 for a cot?! Thats where I drew the line and was amazed to find Mocka, while everything does come flat packed which can be a pain.. the pricing is so on point yet still good quality and aesthetically pleasing. I like how plain looking their stuff is so you can really accessorise the room and not have the furniture be the feature.
I spent $650 and got all three Items below

Mocka Aspiring cot in all white $199.95
*my advice would be not to buy the mocka mattress, I brought a really good quality one from farmers in their 50% off nursery sale that they have a few times a year*

Mocka essentials 6 cube $149.95 (comes in awesome other colours)

Mocka Brooklyn change table and drawer set $249.95
I did also purchase the change table pad that mocka sell on their page out of convenience but I'm sure you could find a cheaper one, theirs was $49.95

Rocker Arm Chair & Ottoman from freedom Furniture $2098
The one Item for the nursery that I can say we seriously splurged on, We chose to have it custom made with leather upholstery, Mostly because Josh loved the look of the tan leather and thought it will be easy to clean.
I feel as though it won't date too much it will simply get better with age and wear.
If you are interested in this particular chair it is significantly cheaper just to get it in fabric! ($699 Chair Only)

I actually found it really hard to find what I was looking for when it came to nursing chairs... some of them genuinely look like those huge lazy boy set ups from the 90's or they don't have arms, and it was really hard to find something that rocked.
I wanted something that was really supportive and had arms on it so it was easy to get in and out of and this one really ticked all the boxes for me with the shape of it.

Where I will say that we could have saved a lot of money is not getting the ottoman that goes with it...its not pictured because I've decided I'm not going to use it
the problem being that the height of the ottoman is the same as the chair which results in you sitting with your legs straight out, not so great for the back unfortunately.
It took up quite a bit of room too so I have decided to use my morrocan pouf instead as its much more compact and a bit lower so you can sit with a slight bend in your knees.

Morrocan Pouf from Alex and Corban $209.99

I thought I would mention some items are things I already had for the home and have migrated to the nursery

FLORAL WREATH
A favourite piece in her room is the beautiful wreath of dried florals above her cot I had made by the lovely Antonia from @mark.antonia.ltd this is also quite special to me as Antonia made a dried floral wreath that sat a top of our wedding cake and her loose dried flowers were carefully placed on our dessert table
Since keeping them I thought they were such a special keepsake detail to remember the day forever and thought I would love to have a piece for my baby girls room

Bassinet
One of the first things I brought!
I am pretty sure for the first wee while she will sleep here next to our bed until I feel comfortable to put her into her nursery and get into more of a routine.
After looking at these brand new I wasn't so keen to spend up to $350 on something she might only use for 5 months so I went second hand and purchased this moses basket, stand and mattress for $90 off Trademe.
Such a saving I highly recommend looking on there as there was quite a few listed when I was on the hunt.
This one had only been used for one baby for 4 months and came from a smoke free home. The seller was local to the north shore so I just went and picked it up...EASY

I did end up replacing the mattress as the original one was a tad thin and sagged slightly in the middle - I purchased a pure wool one from Nature baby which is said to be really breathable

Bassinet sheets are Nature Baby

Storage System
I am lucky enough that her room has a really decent sized wardrobe inside it so I have put a spare set of drawers in here that we have always owned

After my baby shower I was so pleasantly overwhelmed at how much clothes I had been gifted that I didn't want to miss anything as I know they grow so fast
The best tip I feel I have been given is to hang everything up not by size but by length from collar to crotch going from smallest to largest, That way you can easily see what you have rather than it being folded away.
If you have a baby or are preparing for a baby too you will know the sizing is so off and always varies hugely so by hanging it up from smallest to largest Im hoping to get good wear out of it all these are mostly onesies, Rompers, Little dresses or tops pictured.

Coat Hangers $3 a pack of 10 from KMART (BEST FIND!)

As you can see I have stock piled some nappies in here also but do have some in the cane basket in the cubby below the change pad for easy access.
I have brought a few brands to trial out which ones work the best!
A few mums I know have said amazing things about Rascal and Friends that they are the best for not leaking but every baby is different so I shall report back on which ones I find work best for us.
